Remember the movie If it’s Tuesday it must be Belgium? A cult classic if ever there was one, all about this group of Americans on a one-week tour of Europe, and so obviously a leisurely and in-depth one, too.
Well, I’m about to embark on something similar: I have 7 weeks to visit all the Canadian capitals, of which there are fourteen.
Am I excited? You betcha! I’ve never been to St. John’s, Iqaluit, Regina, Winnipeg, and Yellowknife. And, I love an adventure.
The best part, I think, is the opportunity to meet new people from these areas and talk about how they – in their capitals and provinces – would like to celebrate Canada’s next big birthday party.
And, it’s not just about have parties for the sesquicentennial: this is an excellent opportunity to discuss some long-term projects, which culminate in 2017 and which may see some positive changes for say, our environment, like 36 million feats of green, one for every Canadian.
Perhaps there’s an education program for our young people that you’ve always wanted to undertake. Something that will encourage Canadian youth to take an interest in the history and culture of the country and to become more engaged in the political processes.
Anything is possible. Let’s dream big!
Stay tuned for the date to share your ideas in a capital near you or in the meantime, fill out the online survey. Just click "Celebrate" and look for the link.

I just want to say that something needs to be done with the snowmobiles around. I live in Porter Creek and already they are out on their machines and driving quite fast up and down 14th and Fir. This has been a problem every winter and I have seen kids on sleds without helmets, pulling a sled with a rope tied to the back and kids that are in the sled being towed without helmets and on the street. Someone is going to get seriously hurt soon around here. I am tired of shovelling my driveway and I work hard to clear the snow and many hours outside doing this and I hear a snowmobile coming up the street just to take jumps off my snowbanks and throw all the snow I just cleared back onto my driveway to make a huge mess. Their is no respect from them or consideration of the amount of work that goes into clearing a driveway. I am getting very upset about this already and they need to stay off peoples property when on their machine. I hope something can be done to make it fun and safe for anyone riding a snowmobile and that laws will be enforced so nobody gets hurt or killed soon.
