About

What Is the Canadian Capital Cities Organization?

The CCCO is composed of representatives from Canada's provincial and territorial capitals, as well as from the national capital. Our goal is to foster an exchange of ideas and to promote projects that are pan-Canadian, linked by our capitals. The CCCO provides many opportunities for representatives — and capitals — to benefit from the skills of other members, and to combine efforts to promote the capitals, both culturally and economically.

How many capitals are there?

Imagine! There are fourteen capitals: the national capital in Ottawa; ten provincial capitals in St. John’s, Halifax, Charlottetown, Fredericton, Québec,Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, and Victoria; and three territorial capitals in Iqaluit, Yellowknife, and Whitehorse.

About

What is our mandate?

Our mandate is to make a consistent joint effort to promote and increase the political, economic and symbolic significance of the capitals to reflect the pride, unity, history, democratic traditions, and aspirations of the people living in the provinces and territories of Canada.

Thus, the goal of the CCCO is to create links among the country's capitals. Collectively, we seek to promote a greater knowledge of Canada's heritage, culture and political development by encouraging the exploration of those cities that have become Canada's capitals.

In addition, the CCCO, through its educational and other programs, works to ensure that all Canadians feel that they truly belong to this great country.

Who Belongs to the CCCO?

The CCCO includes participants from the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal sectors and the private sector. These participants are representatives from each capital who want to work together to promote the historic, cultural, economic and symbolic heritage of the capitals of Canada.
